Rejected Sana-Here, Rohingya refugees Drink Urine for Life

Jakarta - Rohingya refugees from Myanmar who rejected three ASEAN countries were forced to drink their own urine in an attempt to survive. "We see there are people who drink their own urine from a bottle. We've been throwing water bottles for them, everything that we have on board," said Jonathan Head, BBC, as reported by the Independent, Thursday, May 14, 2015.

In addition, at least ten refugees died of starvation and thirst in a fishing boat that had been adrift over the past week in the Andaman Sea, which lies between southern Myanmar and Thailand to the west. A Muslim Rohingya say the bodies of people who died dumped into the sea.

An estimated 6,000 refugees from Myanmar are in the middle of the sea as a result of denied refuge in countries in ASEAN. According to reports, more than 120 thousand citizens of the Muslim minorities of Myanmar has been taking the boat to the other countries in an effort to escape from Myanmar.

Although the UN and aid agencies have called on the authorities in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia to rescue the refugees, they seem unwilling to take the refugees. Previously, the Navy bringing food and clean water and let the wooden boat carrying Rohingya Muslims went on a trip to Malaysia.

Malaysia's Deputy Interior Minister Wan Junaidi Jaafar said about 500 people were on the ship were found on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, off the northern coast of Penang. After being given some supplies, they were asked to leave Malaysian waters. "What do you expect us to do," said Junaidi.

Junaidi said that his government has been kind to the refugees. "We've been very good for people who go to the borders of our country. We have to treat them humanely, but they can not overwhelm our coast in this way," he said.

Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha said, "If we bring them all into our country, anyone who wants to come will come freely. I ask you, if Thailand is able to take care of them all? So from where the budget?"

Matthew Smith, executive director of the nonprofit human rights group Fortify Rights, stated, "This is a serious humanitarian crisis that demands an immediate response."
